Firstly, this is the fourth part of the “Znaki“ series created with the kultFRONT label, which contains a collection of tracks by Kryptogen Rundfunk from the period of 2003-2006 and wonderful t-shirts based on the cover design made by the maestro Oleg Paschenko.
Secondly, the long-awaited new studio album by Lunar Abyss Deus Organum “Khara-Khoto“, released in two versions: on CDs and cassettes.
And thirdly, the recording of the performance by Petrograd Drone Gathering (to which the participants of the aforementioned projects are directly related) at the Electro-Mechanica festival held in November 2018 in St. Petersburg. A small edition in the extremely outdated but still beloved CD-R format.
Lunar Abyss Deus Organum – Khara-Khoto
Zhelezobeton gladly present the new Lunar Abyss Deus Organum full-length album “Khara-Khoto“!
In fact, this is the first big studio work of the project after “Atimudra“(2012, BioSonar^Labyrint) and a long series of split-releases, collaborations, live recordings and various small editions.
Khara-Khoto was the name of a Tangut city with Buddhist culture which existed in the XI-XIV centuries before it was captured by the troops of the Chinese Ming dynasty (nowadays it is geographically located in the Chinese Inner Mongolia).
The idea of creating this album appeared after visiting a special exhibition at the Hermitage, which presented a lot of original artifacts from this ancient settlement buried in the sands.
Special inspiration came from a deep understanding of the ephemeral and impermanent nature of existence – even prosperous cultures can die in one moment because of the blind greed of invaders.
From the musical point of view, one can hear the full sound palette typical for Lunar Abyss.
This includes multilayered sketches with flowing chains of samples, voice loops and acoustic instruments; rhythmic percussive tracks with vigorous pulsating energy; abstract collages made of analogue electronics, radio noises and fragments of television programs; semi-static enveloping drones spiced up with field recordings.
The physical edition of the album is available in two versions: a CD limited to 300 copies in a matte 4-panel foldout digisleeve and an audio cassette with a chrome (type II) tape, limited to 50 copies.
The digital version is available on bandcamp.
Kryptogen Rundfunk – Elusive Trajectories 2003-2006 / t-shirt
The series of archive recordings “Znaki / Die Zeichen” continues.
The labels kultFRONT and Zhelezobeton present its fourth installment – the collection of compositions of the St. Petersburg-based noise project Kryptogen Rundfunk, recorded in 2003-2006.
Most of these tracks were released on small-edition compilations of the same time, but some of them remained unpublished until now.
This album offers a fresh look at the early period of Kryptogen Rundfunk’s sound in all its diversity.
Sharp injections of digital glitches are polished by dense electronic drone and radio noises, raw sound of Soviet analogue synthesizers pervades the space with low-frequency vibrations, drum machines rumble in a slow industrial dance with a sampler used instead of a vocalist…
The textures of the tracks vary from dark abstract drone ambient to edgy dashing noise, sometimes passing the stage of funny delusional rhythmic sketches.
Each composition here is a separate short story, from a 12-minute immersion into the depths of radio waves on a psychedelic submarine to a 1-second collage made of several found sounds.
Traditionally for the “Znaki” series the artwork was created by the media artist Oleg Paschenko. Based on the cover design, a small edition of Kryptogen Rundfunk’s t-shirts has also been printed.
The t-shirts are made of premium quality “penye” fabric and are available in all sizes between XS and XXL.
Petrograd Drone Gathering – Live at Electro-Mechanica 2018
Petrograd Drone Gathering is an improvisational orchestra of mostly St. Petersburg-based experimental musicians with shifting line-up, often performing at different venues in the city and at open-air events of varying privacy.
This recording was made on November 3, 2018 at the Electro-Mechanica XIII festival held at the New Stage of Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.
This time the line-up of the Drone Gathering featured Alexey Korablin (KorA/M, Moss Reconstruction), Evgeniy Savenko (Lunar Abyss, Mykoriza), M.M. (Kryptogen Rundfunk), Tim Six (Creation VI) and Pavel Dombrovskiy (Uhushuhu), the video-projection was created live by VJ Yuri Elik.
For 50 minutes the musicians explore the Bermuda triangle of the ambient, drone and noise genres.
Synthesizers, guitars, voices, acoustic instruments and endless twists of sound effects merge into a single vibrating stream.
The flow of music constantly changes its properties: sometimes the atmosphere is getting rarefied, creating lacunae of subtle harmonies and melodic lines, sometimes it builds up layers and acquires density turning into noisy rolling waves… Timeless and non-conceptual music for open minds.
