We’ve long been big fans of the heavy experimental lineage that labels like Consouling Sounds, [Walnut+Locust], and Denovali have masterfully offered the world over time, and as such Thierry Arnal‘s Fragment. had long been a constant on our playlist until its sudden disappearance in 2013 with Temporary Enlightenment—an ironic title given its seeming permanence as the bookend album to the artist’s career.
Imagine our surprise this evening when we realized that Amantra, a project that found its beginning in 2014 as a continuation of Arnal’s prior work with an entirely new beginning, had a new release about to be dropped on Kurt Gluck‘s monumental Ohm Resistance imprint! Amantra follows in similar sonic footsteps as Fragment., still retaining a focus on emotive, introverted shoegazing drone and cinematic electro-ambient, but Arnal has significantly upped his aesthetic game. Resilient is slated to be his second release on Ohm Resistance, the first being a split 7″ with Mothboy entitled The Lives of Every Person Driving the Same Highway. Full release coming February 22nd.
