Just knowing that this collaboration exists is probably enough to whet the appetite of many power electronics fans. STROM.ec have made a long career out of confounding expectations and chipping away at the walls of what is too often a very restrictive genre. Likewise, Norwegian soundsmith Kristoffer Oustad is known for his deep, brooding and evocative soundscapes through releases like Filth Haven and his two releases with Peter Nystrom (Megaptera, Negru Voda) under the name Kristoffer Nystroms Orkester. So now, like a blast of Arctic air, comes Stromstad with New Devoted Human out this Friday on Malignant Records.
The release is everything you could wish for from these two artists together: by turns furious and serene, always dynamic and unpredictable. You can definitely feel the touch of both contributors, although the final result is something more than just a combination of their individual traits. It’s an entrancing listen throughout its eight tracks, shifting mood and approach without warning, while at the same time remaining a whole, a world unto itself.
We’re excited to be able to share New Devoted Human with you today, to give you an idea of what you’re in for.
New Devoted Human features a guest appearance by Kjetil Grutle from the mighty Enslaved, mastering by Nordvargr, paintings by Jeff Klena and design by Alonso Urbanos. It is available on gatefold LP (limited 250 copies), CD, and as a digital download.
