After all but disappearing from the release schedule for 2014, Rhode Island’s The Vomit Arsonist is making a formal return this summer with a new release on the seminal Malignant Records, Only Red. Below you’ll find an explanation from Malignant founder Jason Mantis regarding what you have to look forward to with Andy Grant‘s latest offering, but your first taste of Only Red will likely come with this video premiere of a track from the album, “It Just Is.” Directed and edited by Dominic F. Marceau of F Squared Media, “It Just Is” forgoes any semblance of subtlety and immediately grasps the darkened industrial shades that Grant has become known for through violent realism. Once the percussive bottom drops out, however, our antagonist sits through an intense out-of-body experience as he’s forced to see what he has become in utter isolation.
From the Label:
Two years after An Occasion for Death, Andrew Grant’s The Vomit Arsonist returns with a vengeance with his second full-length for Malignant Records, Only Red. Inspired and galvanized by Brighter Death Now‘s U.S. shows in 2014, Grant’s latest album takes on an even more visceral and dynamic feel than works past and is unquestionably the heaviest thing he’s ever done. If An Occasion for Death showed moments of self-discipline and hints of subtlety, no such restraint exists here, as everything about Only Red feels amped up to an entirely new level of intensity.
This is The Vomit Arsonist in full attack mode as explosive and bludgeoning percussion loops emerge from a churning, monolithic pit of corrosive electronics, menacing transformer buzz, chain-dragging atmospherics, and gasping machine exhalations. Throw in a heavy dose of processed, acidic vocals, and the whole record becomes an adrenaline-fueled ride, wrought with tension, extreme nihilism, and palpable hostility. With Only Red, Grant has laid down a new flag at the summit of an already impressive catalog.
Only Red is due to be released on June 9th, 2015 under the catalog ID TumorCD77.
