‘I Arose as Aleph, The Speller, The Killer’: Book By David Tibet and Record By Current 93

During my birthday Moon on March 5, 2010, I hallucinated 41 portraits of ALEPH, THE SPELLER, THE KILLER and painted them in white ink by writing that UrText thousands of times, on black LP sleeves. Inserted in each painted sleeve was a white label test pressing of the Monohallucinatory Mountain album with handwritten labels by me and which I also signed and numbered in Græco-Coptic.

Finally, apocalyptically and æonically, a beautiful 92-page hardback book has been published reproducing all the paintings in their narrative sequence, and with an introduction by myself.

There are two separate editions of the book. Each hardback book is 25 x 25 cm (10 x 10 inches) in size and is printed on heavy black 170gsm Challenger paper matching the original card of the paintings. All paintings are reproduced in their original white ink and all text throughout the book is white. Other features of both editions are decorative blocked covers, black-edged pages, printed endpapers and sewn signatures. Design differences between א ALEPH and ת TAV include the colour of the cloth cover, as well as the colour of the ribbon marker and the head- and tail-bands.

Both editions also come with a one sided 12″ record of a new, 9 minutes and 30 seconds long, Current 93 song entitled “I Arose as Aleph, the Speller, the Killer” (Coptic Cat NIFE017V). The line up on the record is Reinier van Houdt, Andrew Liles, Tony McPhee and David Tibet. The 12″ record is included in the book’s price and is not available for sale separately. This track will not be released in any other formats, including digital download.

“Aleph As Sadness Song” is the first painting in the series I AROSE AS ALEPH, THE SPELLER, THE KILLER and shows David as Aleph as Sadness Song before his disintegration into Speller, Killer. “Aleph as OverMoon” is the last painting in the series, and shows David as Aleph reintegrated as OverMoon having unspelled and unkilled. Very large scale prints of these two paintings have been made on heavyweight Hahnemühle paper, measuring 106 x 106 cm (42 x 42 inches). Only 11 prints of each painting have been made, each one numbered out of 11 and signed by David Tibet.

The launch both of our new website, DavidTibet.com, and the new book of paintings by David Tibet with accompanying 12” Current 93 record, I Arose As Aleph, The Speller, The Killer has been respelled by The Lunar Aleph to January 7 to mark the Waning Crescent Moon in Scorpio before it moves into Sagittarius on January 8.

These items will be available fromDavidTibet.com on January 7, 2013.
